| Central Region: Celina Lopez, Missouri Hola a Todos!
I am currently a third year law student at the University of Missouri. I am originally from Corpus Christi, Texas, and am a proud alumnus of Texas Tech University. I received a Bachelor’s degree from Tech in Music Performance, and also have a Master’s from there in Higher Education. Although I love Texas, I decided to go out of state for law school, and Missouri is great (albeit a little colder than what I’m used to!). My first summer out of law school I studied abroad in beautiful Cape Town, South Africa, where I studied courses in Comparative International Law, and last summer I had the please of working for the ACLU Capital Punishment Project in Durham, North Carolina. As a first generation college student, I have a strong appreciation for education, and want to be able to give back to the Latino community. I hope to become a public interest attorney, working for the indigent and less fortunate. I particularly would like to work in the capital punishment realm, working to abolish the death penalty. As NLLSA’s Central Regional Director, my job is to communicate with the Latino law student organizations in each central state – Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Michigan. By creating a network for the region, each organization can support and encourage each other, as well as swap ideas for events and fundraisers. I hope to help spread the word about NLLSA and increase attendance at the next NLLSA conference, so that others may be inspired by this esteemed organization. If you are in the central region (or any region for that matter), feel free to contact me! |
