NLLSA National Latino/a Law Student Association

    CHAIR

    BIENVENIDOS A NLLSA!

What a privilege to serve as your National Chair! I cannot imagine a more purposeful
time to work alongside Latino law students from across the country. Many have called
the Latino immigration controversy of our day the stimulus for the next civil rights
movement. Our community continues to face uncertainty, with immigration reform,
decreased diversity in law schools, the bench and bar, higher tuition for public
education, increased deaths at the border, racial profiling and exploitation of migrant
workers. What are we to do?

Now is the time to say, I will organize! I will march! I will lead! We must welcome and
shape the debate on such issues. Take the first step in this endeavor and mark your
calendars for the 12th Annual National Latina/o Law Students Association Conference
October 16-19. Let’s work together to understand the issues, create strategies to
address them and mobilize leaders to represent them at the local, state and national
levels. As the fastest growing minority group in the nation, we can make a difference.
Hagamos la diferencia porque … !SI SE PUEDE!

I take great pride in being a part of an association that promotes student activism and
social justice for the Latino community. My service began in 2006, as NLLSA’s Attorney
General. This year, I am fortunate to work alongside eleven active board members
representing law schools from the far west (UCLA) to the furthest east (Yale) and
several in between (University of Texas and University of New Mexico). The NLLSA
Board is focused on long term development, and our goals for the year are ambitious
yet realistic: incorporating in California as a 501c3, ratifying the corporate bylaws,
revamping our national communications, starting the first National Latina/o Law
Student Association Moot Court Competition, and making this year’s attendance at
the Annual Conference the highest in NLLSA’s history!
