This year, we are thrilled to have the Yale Law School’s Latino Law Student Association (LLSA) host the 2010 NLLSA Conference in October!
NLLSA is an organization designed to serve as a conduit for Latino/a law students throughout the country and to empower the larger Latino community. Founded in 1996, NLLSA’s mission of social, ethnic, and gender equality, as well as diversity in the legal profession, has clearly resonated with students and professionals from around the country. The organization now boasts a local chapter in nearly every law school. The 2009 Conference in Chicago, Illinois, was a huge success, and we look forward to continuing NLLSA’s astronomical growth this Fall at the Yale Law School.
As in years past, this weekend-long conference will bring together hundreds of diverse law student leaders from schools such as Berkeley, Columbia, Cornell, Texas, UCLA, Yale, and many others. The Conference will also attract professors, practitioners, judges, and prominent community leaders from all regions of the country.
The Conference theme, “Ahora” (Now), highlights the important work and accomplishments that our predecessors have realized. The theme also acknowledges that we must confront the challenges our communities face if we wish to preserve these achievements. With this in mind, the topics presented at the conference will prominently focus on immigration reform, education reform, workers’ rights, voting rights, and access to healthcare, to name but a few. As in years past, the Conference will be an opportunity to unite various sectors of the legal profession to understand and tackle these urgent issues.
This year we are especially excited to bring the National Conference back to the East Coast, after six long years. We are eager to introduce our national membership of law student leaders to law firms and companies that value diversity in the legal workplace.
