The Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation is a quasi-federal organization. We protect the pensions of nearly 40 million American workers and retirees in more than 20,000 private single-employer and multiemployer defined benefit pension plans. Attorneys in the Office of General Counsel (OGC) work in Bankruptcy Law, Employee Benefits Law, Administrative Law, Labor Law, Transactional Law, and Litigation. In addition, interns will have the opportunity to gain experience in federal procurement, ethics, employment law, and privacy issues. OGC is regularly involved in some of the most complex industrial bankruptcies, mergers & acquisitions, negotiations, and restructurings in our country. Our robust Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) litigation and advisory practice protects pensions in the airline, steel, auto, media, and retail industries. Our agency has independent litigating authority, which offers attorneys substantial litigation experience. Interns learn and gain hands-on experience in support of important PBGC legal matters, including plaintiff- and defendant-side litigation. Assignments may include research, preparing advisory memoranda, drafting of litigation and transactional documents, and assistance with regulatory and policy matters.
